Ballet Body

Using muscles you never used before

Now that the Ballet Workout has started and a lot of women have tried it out, I have had a lot of questions about muscles and pain.

I’m not a doctor and speak only out of my own experience.

As I have learned during my career, there are 2 sorts of pain. Good pains and bad pains. Good pains are usually the pains you feel in the muscles when stretching and after exercise when your muscles have cooled down. And there is bad pain, these are pains in your ligaments (ankles, spine, knees…) During class I always ask everyone to make sure to keep the knees and ankles in a line and don’t exaggerate the turn out at the beginner stages. Any stretch or movement where you feel pain is your knees is not correctly done.

Another question I had is: “What to do with the muscles pain after class?”

It’s absolutely normal to feel that your muscles are a bit sore a few days after the Workout. Even more, if you don’t feel it at all, you probably didn’t work correctly. During the class you use muscles that you never used before. Ballet exercises focus more on the deeper muscles, that you don’t use in every day life. The best thing to do is to eat plenty of vegetables and fruits and to keep exercising. The best cure for sore muscles is to keep coming to class a few days after each other to warm them up, stretch and exercise. This way they will get stronger and won’t hurt so easily next time.

I hope this helps! If you have any question, feel free to email me at info@balletworkout.be

Sincerely Yours, Tatevik Mkrtoumian
